United Methodist Men
The mission of our United Methodist Men is to (1) provide a forum for fellowship among the men of the church, and (2) respond to outreach projects. Call Bob Piersma at 301-649-1544 for more information.
Fellowship
UMM usually meets at the Church for dinner the third Wednesday of each month from September to May. After the meal the group conducts business and sometimes have a guest speaker. Special Bible studies and other topical studies are offered from time to time.
Service
In order to respond to needs within the church and outside mission projects, we hold an annual auction in late winter/early spring. on the third All funds go directly into projects such as Camp Hope.
United Methodist Women
The Hughes UMW is are a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative and supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Fellowship Circles
The Friendship Circle meets the First Tuesday of each month,
noon in the Church Social Hall.
The Loyalty Circle meets the First Wednesday of each month,
7:30 p.m. in homes of members or in the Church Parlor.

Service
Rummage Sales: Each October and March, the UMW holds rummage sales at the Church. Over the years, the Hughes UMW has contributed over $100,000 in rummage proceeds to our church, community, and world. We have storage space available for your contributions at any time of the year. Call the church for more information, and check the home page for specific dates.
Board of Child Care: Cookies are needed again for this organization. Please donate a dozen or more cookies to the collection box outside the church office by September 18th. Cans (14 oz. to 16 oz.) of peas and corn are also being collected at the same location.
Missions
UMW supports the following missions:
- Montgomery County Women's Center in Rockville, a daytime shelter for homeless women
- Susanna Wesley House in Baltimore, a home for battered women and children
- Scott's Run Settlement House in Osage, West Virginia
- The Board of Child Care in Baltimore, a home for children unable to live with their parents.
- Wheaton Rescue Squad
- Meals on Wheels
- Camp Hope and our own Hughes Youth activities.
