Rev. Kenneth B. Hawes, Senior Pastor
Rev. Kenneth B. Hawes received his Masters of Divinity in 1994 from Wesley Theological Seminary, after having earned his Masters in Music from Manhattan School of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the State University of NY at Purchase.
Ken’s passions in ministry are preaching, helping individuals and congregations grow in love and service to Christ, and seeking justice and peace in God’s world. He has served churches in Stamford, CT, Croton on Hudson, NY and Hagerstown, MD.
An avid musician, he plays French horn with the Frederick Symphony Orchestra and other area ensembles. Ken also enjoys baseball, hiking and biking. He is married to Nancy Hammond, and they provide a home to a retired greyhound and two cats.

Braulio Torres, Mission Pastor
Braulio is in his last semester of the Master of Divinity program at from Wesley Theological Seminary and will in May 2010. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesley College from Dover, DE. Prior to joining Hughes, Braulio served in Casa Del Pueblo UMC in Washington, DC, First UMC of Hyattsville in MD, and at Culmore UMC in VA.
Braulio's passion is to share (both in English and Spanish) the good news of the Gospel to others in God’s name; to preach the Kingdom of God that is here and now to everyone no matter their language, skin color, social status, culture, sexual preference, or legal status.
Braulio likes to play basket ball, go to the movies, and work with Information Technology. He also practices martial arts at the Northern Virginia Hapkido Academy. Braulio is married to Lucy Torres, and they have a 17-month-old son, Isaac.

Braulio se encuentra en su último semestre del programa de Maestría en Divinidad en el Seminario Teológico de Wesley. Recibió su Licenciatura en Artes de Wesley College en Dover, DE. Antes de unirse a Hughes, Braulio sirvió en la iglesia Casa del Pueblo UMC en Washington, DC, la primera iglesia Metodista Unidad en Hyattsville MD, y en Culmore UMC en VA.
La pasión de Braulio es compartir (en Inglés y Español) la buena noticia del Evangelio a los demás en nombre de Dios, predicar a todos del Reino de Dios que es aquí y ahora, sin importar su idioma, color de piel, condición social, cultura, preferencia sexual o situación legal.
A Braulio le gusta jugar al baloncesto, ir al cine, y trabajar como tecnico en computacion. Tambien le gusta practicar artes marciales en La academia de Hapkido en Virginia. Braulio está casado con Lucy Torres, y tienen un hijo de 17 meses, Isaac.

Marie J. Bunting, Director of Music
Mrs. Bunting earned the Master of Music Education degree from the University of Maryland in 1974. She was a music teacher in the Prince George's County Public School system for 32 years, retiring in 2002. Mrs. Bunting became the choir director at Hughes in the fall of 1985 and assumed the duties of Director of Music in the fall of 2000. She began the bell choirs when the bells were purchased in the winter of 1984, and still directs the adult bell choir as well as the Chancel Choir.

Dr. Van Knauss, Organist
Dr. Van Knauss earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Catholic University in 1972 and became the music department chairman at Columbia Union College, Washington, D. C. in the fall of 1972. He began his teaching career at Columbia Union College in April of 1967.
